Hi, I’m Jen!
I am through and through a dog lover. Ever since I was a child I knew I loved dogs. I grew up with Tawny and she was my best friend. We learned so much together, and one thing about her that always stood out to me was her bravery.
I went to school for art and have made a career out of it. I am a full time illustrator, writer, poet, painter, and embroiderer. I love being creative, and I think it is important to do what you love.
Creating a children’s book has always been a dream of mine. I wanted to write a book about bravery, as it is something I believe is important in everyone’s lives. Understanding can help to ease fear and empower you to become braver.
The power of friendship is showcased in Tawny Dog: The Bravest. Having support from good friends and family are great ways to overcome difficult times. Tawny and I always supported each other!

Tawny taught me just as much as I taught her in life. Her bravery always inspired me and I wanted to honour Tawny by telling the story of how she became so brave. Drawing Tawny brought me closer to her in many ways, and makes me feel like her memory will always live on in art and story. The book was written, penciled out, inked by hand, and traditionally water coloured. It was then scanned, and touched up digitally.
Making a book has so many stages and takes lots of time, yet is incredibly worthwhile. I would highly recommend to any storyteller (of any age) to draw and write as much as possible. This is how we learn and grow!
